Twisted Sister est un groupe de heavy metal et de glam metal américain officiellement créé en février 1973 mais qui n'enregistrera son premier album-démo, Ruff cutts, qu'en 1982 chez Secret Records. Twisted Sister est surtout connu pour ses deux plus grands succès: We're Not Gonna Take It et I Wanna Rock, des classiques du glam metal.
Fondé en 1973, à Long Island, à New York, par le guitariste Jay Jay French, Twisted Sister était avant tout un groupe de glam rock influencé par Alice Cooper, Kiss et les New York Dolls. Le groupe s’est ensuite dirigé vers un heavy metal vers la fin des années 70, avec l’arrivée de Dee Snider et d’autres musiciens. L’histoire du groupe démarre avec Jay Jay French lorsque celui-ci rejoint un groupe nommé Silverstar, puis se fait auditionner par Wicked Lester, qui n’est autre que le futur Kiss. Mais French reste dans Silverstar et sur une suggestion du chanteur Michael Valentine, le groupe se renomme en Twisted Sister. Nous sommes alors en 1973 et le line up se compose de Jay Jay et Billy Diamond aux guitares, Michael Valentine au chant, Kenny Neill à la basse et Mell Starr à la batterie. En 1975, Eddie Fingers, un ami de French, rejoint le groupe en tant que guitariste et second vocaliste. Kevin John Grace remplace aussi le batteur Mell Starr. Le groupe s’oriente vers le glam rock, influencé par David Bowie, Slade, Mott The Hoople, Humble Pie, et les New York Dolls. Twisted Sister n’est alors pas très connu et joue uniquement dans les petits clubs de New York...............
